Hello from your President Kerry Benson
m: 0409 860 001
This is the newsletter that I love to write because we can now welcome members back to meetings and events. We have a “roadmap” to the future established by govt and compliant club rules for RMYC meetings and our gatherings in public places of 20 people. However, it could be longer than Tolstoy’s “War and Peace”. Content below includes
- Vale Adrian Stanford & tributes for a great bloke – ex PMEA president 1997 – 2009
- Meeting and events under covid restrictions for remainder of 2021.
- Double vaccination certificates - see govt info below.
- Entry requirements for Royal Motor Yacht Club – see below
- Last day for renewal of membership was Sept 30.
- Christmas luncheon at Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club – Sunday 12 Dec.
Adrian Stanford farewell tributes
Here are some tributes received this week. At our AGM evening, members will have a chance to pay tribute in free discussion. He was a legend in his time as president for 12 years of the club’s 27-year history. “On the highway to heaven”. We extend our condolences to his family.
Thanks for letting us know Kerry.
Adrian did quite a few rego inspections for me. Lovely guy.
Condolences to his family.
Sorry to hear that.
All the best to his family and close friends.
That’s terribly sad news.
I didn’t know him well, but Adrian was president when I joined, and he was always very kind and generous of spirit.
Condolences to his family and friends.
Adrian was a wonderful, quiet & friendly asset of PMEA.
As President for 12 long years, he helped bind the members together with his competent handling of meeting procedure, as well as overseeing club vehicle displays at Newport & Narrabeen.
Adrian was first and foremost a Biker with a passion for British Panthers, a large bike with a forward sloping cylinder around 600 to 650 ccs.
Adrian’s brother also shared this passion and became a PMEA member.
Panthers were suited to sidecar operation so in his later years Adrian built up a more modern Japanese bike with an attached chair that was easier to ride in club outings.
Adrian’s interests were British & I recall him purchasing a very unusual rather streamlined Rolls Royce of around mid 30s vintage, it was quite a standout.
The club owes Adrian a debt of gratitude for his PMEA endeavours.
Ride on my friend.
Hi folks - I joined PMEA a very long time ago as my neighbour John Dunphy was in it, also up on Bilgola Plateau was Bod Radnidge - [ you can call me God]- and bill lacey who started it all. Later, Adrian Stanford became pres. And his brother Alister was also a BMW biker - he was a QF aircraft e.g., like me, so I often saw him at airbases. I lost most of my good shots due to that lousy w.10, but have a few of Adrian if that helps - John Dunphy knew him very well as he was treas. Also - he might have some better ones. Adrian was solid mech. And always helpful to me with any classic motorcycle problems - he had some wonderful simple sayings. Ronnie the hammer used to refer to him as - ‘yr worship ‘at mtgs. - ride on Adrian
Meeting and events under covid restrictions for remainder of 2021.
My wife, Sue and I are both double vaccinated and have proof on our iPhone Wallet app which can be shown quickly for entry to regulated places. We have been warned that signing into clubs could be a lengthy process if people do not have quick access to their double vaccination evidence, causing angst to those behind them in the queue. Please allow extra time to sign into clubs. Single vaccination is not sufficient for meetings or events such as BBQs and there are no exceptions.
I respect that vaccination is a personal choice and will not enter a debate with anyone. We will simply apply the regulations of govt and organisations we use.
Next meetings - Royal Motor Yacht Club Top Deck function room at 7.30pm. This room has a capacity of 80 guests based on the 4 sq m rule with distanced seating. Masks and sanitising will be supplied on entry. Members must remain seated. (Note, we can now revert to Tuesday evenings except for the first week back when the club is not open Mon or Tues after 5pm)
Wednesday 13th Oct – Feature technical session - Restarting laid up vehicle’s forum by Ron Howell & Greg Lakeman + John Kaye Video 2021 Display Day at RMYC.
Sunday 17th Oct run – free BBQ at McCarrs Creek reserve – separate groups limit 20 each – must prebook and register attendance on our new QR code set up as in the shops & elsewhere.
Tuesday 26th Oct – Annual General meeting including awards, followed by general meeting. Tributes to 2 past presidents and a surprise video of a colourful member.
Sunday 12th Dec - PMEA Christmas luncheon & display as per last year at Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club. Over 100 guests allowed. Cost & menu to come – subsidised as usual. Please book the date.
Tuesday 14th Dec – last 2021 meeting.
Tuesday 11th Jan 2022 – new year! Better than 2021 we hope!
Refer to the Vice President's report and events section for more details. See below for club rules and vaccination certificates.
Those who have not renewed by September 30 and have been unfinancial since July 1 will be no longer members of PMEA. If they wish to re-join, they must apply for a Membership Form and submit it to the Committee. We have about a dozen prospective new applicants waiting to join. Currently we have about 400 financial members.

Finally, we have some good news that PMEA General Meetings and Events can now restart in October in line with NSW Government Health Rules.
It seems like eons ago that we had our last Sunday event to E-Valance at Hornsby on Sunday 13th June!
I’ll be doing some research into café Events, these may initially need to be cafes that have outdoor seating, and which ones may be open in the foreseeable future. Of course, you will need to be double vaccinated to attend a PMEA meeting or Event and provide proof if requested.
In addition to the above, restrictions currently for that time will mean that only 20 persons outdoors can gather. Therefore, our first scheduled Event will be another PMEA BBQ at McCarrs Creek on Sunday 17th October (weather permitting), featuring British Cars.
Strictly this will be a ticketed event only with pre-booking via the PMEA website. We will have 2 x BBQ’s, meaning that we can have 2 x groups of 20 persons maximum in each group, socially distanced apart in the grounds.
PMEA have also obtained a QR Code for this event, so you will need check in via QR Code, as per other QR coded venues. I’m sure folks you’re used to the process by now!
Once you book via the website, you will receive a confirmation email with individual ticket number. This means that we will be able to track those attending and provide proof if asked. There will be GROUP ONE and GROUP TWO, once the 1st group is fully booked, you can book under GROUP TWO. You will not be able to ‘mingle’ from one group to the other. Depending on indications of attendance, we may be able to open another group of 20 for a ‘BYO Picnic’, which won’t partake in the BBQ. So, 1st in best dressed! Should you have any queries, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
All Events during November and December are being reviewed, so please regularly check on the website for updates.
The only confirmed Event for December is now our annual PMEA Xmas party with car display, scheduled for Sunday 12th December at the Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club Newport. Details to come on the Events page of the website.
It is essential to regularly check the PMEA website for up-to-date information and amendments.
All future PMEA Events and General Meetings will naturally be subject to the current COVID rules at that time.
New PMEA windscreen banners have been procured, these are available for $25 each, please log-in to the Members section of the website and go to Club Shop where you will find a picture and instructions on how to order. Should you have any difficulties, please contact me directly.
The Michael Andrews Memorial Trophy (MAT) has concluded for another year. Points are recorded for attendance at every General Meeting and all Events. I will be presenting the MAT Trophy to the winner at the upcoming AGM, now confirmed for Tuesday 26th October.
Please do coming along to this meeting for this and our other club awards for 2020/2021 and congratulate the winners.
Keep those wheels turning
Vice President & Events.
