OUR BIWEEKLY NEWSLETTER

15th OCTOBER 2021

Hello from your President Kerry Benson

m: 0409 860 001
e:   pmeapresident2020@gmail.com

Hello to all members,

At last, we are back in action, albeit cautiously. We will continue to be guided by the latest health advice to keep us all as safe as possible even if inconvenient at times. Our last meeting prior to lockdown was on 22nd June and post lockdown we began again on 13th October with forty odd attendees at our general meeting. Unfortunately, the club’s audio-visual system had a remote internal connection problem over which we had no control and despite the best efforts of Secretary Gavin and the duty manager who had everything connected correctly we had to proceed without it.

The following morning, Samantha Taylor – RMYC functions manager rang to apologise, as she had successfully tested the system and offered to waive the $150 fee for covid safe set up that we usually pay. She also offered use of the RMYC laptop to use as back up and a personal meeting to review the system which was recently updated. Electronic systems are not like mechanical systems where you can actually see what is wrong!

Sunday 17 Oct - Our free BBQ features British vehicles and is covered in the VP newsletter. Covid regulations mean we have three separated groups of 30 max.

Group 1 – David Cawthorn

Group 2 – Kerry Benson at McCarrs Creek Reserve.

Group 1 & 2 Location map

Group 3 – Graeme Smith at Bayview Park reserve.

Bayview Park  - as viewed when driving from Mona Vale

Free parking at Bayview Park

We now have about seventy-eight people booked in! Twelve remaining places are at Bayview, and we must adhere to the thirty limit. Please bring all utensils, picnic chairs, tables etc. Forecast is good at present. Hot water facilities for tea/coffee at McCarrs Creek however Group 3 guests at Bayview are requested to bring their own Thermos of hot water. No raffles on the day either.

Cancellation will be notified if necessary on the website under Stop Press on Saturday about 7pm.(Based on BOM advice - we may sometimes get it wrong but the 7pm call will prevail regardless)  In the event of forecast inclement weather we are able to go direct to the Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club for breakfast with a wonderful glass outlook of Pittwater, boats and Bayview hills. Cost about $20 each. Usual entry procedure at reception – mention PMEA for seating.

Our general meetings return to Tuesday nights now except for November when we must revert to Wednesday 10th for one time.

Our long-awaited AGM is on 26th October in the Top Deck room at the usual time. This will be an extra special meeting as we have some special awards to honour some very much valued members and pay homage to two past presidents who have passed on since our last meeting. We also wish to acknowledge the women associated with our club and express our appreciation of their contributions which often go unnoticed. We invite women of our club as members, wives, or partners to join us. The bistro is open for dinner and the bar will be open to mingle afterwards. We have some interesting John Kaye videos to present and would be appreciative if some of members of old could attend with memoirs of past presidents. The current committee have all re nominated and no further nominations were received so no election will be necessary. I continue to be amazed with the initiatives and spontaneity of fellow committee members in executing their roles. We have made quantum leaps in the use of technology in administration and most members are now using the new website confidently for booking events, transferring money & general information.

Past club patrons – Doug Baker, Bill Lacey, Adrian Stanford – all have now passed on and it is timely to consider the role and consider at length a suitable short list of possible nominees. Please confidentially advise potential candidates to me or a committee member before 21 Oct.

PMEA Christmas luncheon - Sun 12 Dec at RPAYC as per last year. See the events calendar to book at $35 each which is generously subsidised. This has been a well attended fun event for members and spouses. This is a good dress up day to enjoy - people can look as glamorous as possible. The lunch includes two courses and a welcome drink on arrival. We also have a display of about fifteen vehicles on the lawn in front of the clubhouse – great to wander amongst the vehicles before and after the lunch with a drink and friends with that great background. We need some good show vehicles – maybe some newer members who have not exhibited before – please contact me and we always have plenty of spectacular vehicles of old.

That is about it for now, enjoy your motoring and your club.

Kind Regards,

Kerry Benson

President.

Events Update from your Vice President David Cawthorn

Many changes to the Events Calendar were announced at our 1st General Meeting post lockdown. This has certainly kept me very busy in the last week. However, it is great to be back!

Kerry has talked about the forthcoming PMEA BBQ British Big Day Out in this newsletter. This has been quite challenging for everyone involved to work out how we can safely provide an enjoyable Event, in line with the current NSW Government Health Rules of maximum 30 per group. Therefore, we have set up 3 groups, the 1st two at McCarr’s Creek are now fully booked (but please remember to CANCEL with the organiser should you not be able to attend), this will give others the last-minute chance to book in and come if desired.

The 3rd group is located at Bayview Reserve, 1672 Pittwater Rd Bayview, the entrance is opposite King Edward Ave (note-Pay and Display Area or free with NCB sticker). Free adjacent nearby parking also along Pittwater Rd fence line. Enter from 8am. Our amazing treasurer Mr Graeme Smith will oversee Group 3. At the time of writing, there are 13 spots still available. Pre-booking via the PMEA website, or if you require assistance to book in, please contact me prior.

To ensure smooth arrival, and to facilitate parking of attendee’s cars as quickly as possible, please ensure you familiarise yourself with your group number that you have booked. You’re group number is listed on your email confirmation! You will be asked on arrival at McCarr’s Creek which group you are in and be directed to park.

Strictly this will be a ticketed, pre-booked event only, you will not be able to just turn up (unlike previous BBQ arrangements. We will have 2 x BBQ’s at McCarr’s Creek, socially distanced apart in the grounds.

PMEA have also obtained a QR Code for this event, so you will need check in via QR Code, as per other QR coded venues. I’m sure folks you’re used to the process by now!

Sunshine is the forecast, however in the event of heavy rain, this will be conveyed via message on the HOME /STOP PRESS front page of the website on Saturday evening.

It is essential to regularly check the PMEA website for up-to-date information and amendments
