OUR BIWEEKLY NEWSLETTER

30th OCTOBER 2021

Hello from your President Kerry Benson

Hello to all members,

Now the committee has been re elected to hold office until 30th June, 2022 we can plan confidently. When I look back to 2015 when I joined the committee with about 30 attending meetings at the Guides Hall and fighting for parking spaces and about 200 members I realise how much progress we have made. There were no videos or laptop records but there were plenty of member stories of varying quality to listen to. We always had to guess how many would attend an event and catering was a nightmare. Thanks to the new website, a very competent committee, and gregarious, reliable, fun loving members we are assured of a great future.  Note that in the minutes we have now included links to videos shown at the meeting so those who did not attend can also watch them at their leisure so please read the minutes.

Like puppies off the leash we are keen to race out and about, but we still need to take care with masks indoors. Our AGM night of celebration with club tab seemed popular and the spontaneous applause, great videos, special speeches of memories, some sad and others especially hilarious such as Geoff Morris’ tales of adventures with “Mr Roving” Rundle and birthday singing for VP David all demonstrated the great camaraderie that exists in our club and I encourage all inactive members to join us for our well organised events, using the website booking system or contact us if that is in the too hard bin.

Now that meetings have resumed I can “speak” more and write less in newsletters but they served as our only means of communication in lockdown and by the comments received not all the words were wasted.

VP David has covered all the events details well in his newsletter. I am also a member of the RPAYC and they kindly let members use the facilities free of charge for functions such as ours. The views and facilities are first class and those who have yet to attend are in for a treat. At our Christmas luncheon we can display about 15 vehicles on the lawn at RPAYC, weather permitting. Those who have booked (i.e. paid) and wish to display their vehicle can contact me on 0409 860 001. From the vehicles nominated we can decide on the best variety and give preference to vehicles & members that are new to the club – some members of old may have vehicles “new” to them – even the odd Austin Healey, Mr “Life Member” Rundle.

Thanks to all participating members for a great year ahead.

That is about it for now, enjoy your motoring and your club.

Kind Regards,

Kerry Benson

President.

This Sundays Event (after being cancelled 3 times with the big L word LOCKDOWN), is finally on!

Private pre-arranged exclusive visit for PMEA to see this amazing collection of Alfa Romeo and Ferrari brand cars at Mortlake. Your host will be Tony, the curator of this amazing collection. IF YOU HAVE NOT BOOKED IN, YOU WILL BE REFUSED ENTRY!  At the time of writing, there were only 6 places left in group three.

Meet /Start: Meet 7.45am Mona Vale Library carpark. Depart 8.00am sharp.

Additional pick up: outside Bunnings Belrose on Mona Vale Rd before slip road to Narabang Way. Depart 8.15 am sharp.

Route via Lane Cove Rd, Ryde Rd, Ryde Bridge, Concord Rd to destination. Breakfast Point/Mortlake is a bit tricky to get to, so good idea to enable your GPS.

Location: Enter as group only. Parking in Emily St or Village Drive (unrestricted) Breakfast Point. Village Drive is a circle road so park anywhere you can. We will meet as a group outside covered sheltered picnic tabled structure in Village Drive for special short BRIEFING prior to walking together to the location. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO FIND AND WALK INTO THE PREMISES ON YOUR OWN.  I will have an umbrella so follow me (like a tour guide in Venice)!!!

Entry: ONLY in your designated group. PLEASE familiarise yourself with your group number prior to arrival (it will be on your email confirmation). There will be three groups of maximum 20 per group allowed through at a time (due to COVID restrictions). GROUP ONE is first; GROUP TWO is second and GROUP THREE is 3rd to enter. Please be patient with the organisers.

Departure: At your leisure. Why not take the 'novelty' way back, if you have time on your hands, and take a ride on the nearby Mortlake Car Ferry, operating from Mortlake to Putney (free)? It's been running from 1925 and operates on weekends on demand from 10.30am until 5.30pm.  It can take up to 18 cars at a time.

Cost: $2 per person raffle ticket voluntary donation. Please help the organiser and fill in the MAT Attendance sheet ON ARRIVAL. Prizes to be given afterwards on venue forecourt.

Inclement Weather: As the vehicles are housed in two warehouses, this will be an ALL-WEATHER Event, so it will definitely go ahead.

***You will need to be fully double vaccinated to attend this Event AND you must bring and wear a mask indoors while viewing the collection***

FOOD: Dom Panino Breakfast coffee van on site. Food and & coffee for purchase upon arrival. Please order ASAP on arrival to facilitate flow of attendees.

Sunday 28th November: Nield Park Café Pavilion, Rodd Point

Our annual PMEA Xmas party with car display is on again, scheduled for Sunday 12th December at the Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club Newport. Bookings now open, please refer to the Event page of the website for booking instructions and payments.

All future PMEA Events and General Meetings will naturally be subject to the current COVID rules at that time.

It is essential to regularly check the PMEA website for up-to-date information and amendments

Don’t Forget

New PMEA windscreen banners have been selling well, not exactly like hotcakes, but let’s say warmcakes! However, as stocks were low, we have just ordered another 30 banners, these ones are minus the watermarked logo. So, the few original ones left have become collectors’ items!!

We would like to encourage more members to purchase one and proudly display them at our Events. They are available for $25 each, please log-in to the Members section of the website and go to Club Shop where you will find a picture and instructions on how to order. Should you have any difficulties, please contact me directly.

There will be some available for purchase directly at this Sunday’s Event...just ask.

Keep those wheels turning

David Cawthorn

Vice President & Events.
