KEEP TUNED

OUR BIWEEKLY NEWSLETTER

6th AUGUST 2021

Hello from your President Kerry Benson

The future and the present are the same now. Bit like the age-old quote; “the trouble with doing nothing is.........................you never know when you are finished!”

Club meeting nights – Tuesday/Wednesday?  I have contacted R.M.Y.C. staff hoping that we can return to Tuesday nights when the summer boating season begins in September however no decisions yet. (NB This is the first year that they have closed Tuesday trading so no precedent to follow)

New membership applications are on hold until meetings resume and are only available for genuine club enthusiasts who will attend club events as agreed on the membership application and stated in Club Procedures on the website and are happy to associate with other members.

Christmas lunch scheduled Sunday 12th December is booked “in pencil” at Royal Prince Alfred Yacht club so try to keep the date clear. Over 100 attended last year but capacity is 200 and a great lunch at a beautiful venue overlooking our vehicle display on the forecourt lawn and yachts in the background. Subsidised by club funds as usual.

Events - As noted below, VP David has cancelled or postponed all near future events although they still show on the calendar in case lockdown regulations change

Next general meeting 7.30pm, date to be advised, 2021 – to include a tribute to Alastair Browne’s passing – chance for members to add some good stories. We will also have the chance to remember and honour founding member, Bill McMurrich (“many Kicks”) who passed away suddenly on Monday 12th July.

AGM 7.30pm, date to be advised, 2021 – Important presentations for Club Member of the Year, Michael Andrews Trophy, and this time we have a Life Membership to award. We will express appreciation for the valued contribution that women make in our club, as frequent participants, delightful company, and willing workers in club activities. We invite our companions to attend and contribute to the evening with a longer time for après meeting drinks and chat.

A novelty auction will be held at our general meeting following our AGM to sell two historic “Pittwater” number plate attachments (auctioned separately) which are new “old stock” and unavailable since 2016. Are you saving up?

Publicity and Communications Officer . I am pleased to announce that Kath Hunter (member 704) has volunteered to assist with loading information onto the website as she has experience with WordPress software and will meet with Graeme when Covid regulations permits. Kath is a very capable member who has a beautiful prize-winning Mitsubishi Starion.

Stay Tuned magazine continues to be a written “voice “of our members. It has traditionally been published every 2 months with articles from members and some enlightening cartoons & funnies. Andrew Willoughby has been editor for uncountable years. We may restructure a little as the website has all the immediate info for routine events & official matters. We do not need to repeat this in the magazine. However, we do need articles of interest to publish in the magazine section of the website and we are considering adding these articles fortnightly to the website current magazine, so you don’t have to wait 2 months to get them. As we can now include links to articles & videos from elsewhere such as YouTube (copyright permitting) it expands what is available. The usual stories about members’ journeys, restorations, historical articles etc. are in demand. Members love to read them. Please email articles to Andrew Willoughby at andrew.willoughby@sydneywater.com.au

Jaguar Drivers Club of Australia video.   E Type 60 anniversary at Bathurst back in May. Sue and I attended and enjoyed the sights of Bathurst. Click HERE to view a great video of the event.

I expect to see some very shiny vehicles after this lockdown!

Events Update from your Vice President David Cawthorn

Not much to report with EVENTS, except All British Day for Sunday 17th October has now been cancelled.

The those members that have paid for tickets, PMEA hold these tickets and as they do not have a date on them, can officially still be used for next years event.

It would be preferable, to save our treasurer extra work on refunds,  that PMEA hold your funds. If you still want to have a refund, please email Graeme Smith at treasurerpmea@bigpond.com

As we are uncertain whether this current lockdown will end at the end of August, or be extended again, at this point I am still planning future Events to avoid mass panic organisation (for me!) when we are able to again get together. During these difficult times, it is essential to regularly check the PMEA website for up to date information and amendments!

You will need to re-register (RSVP) on the website for a re-scheduled date change Event if you intend going. Please be sure to also fill in your name/s, not just an email address.

Also a reminder, if you are unable to attend a PMEA Event, please cancel via the website, so that we have accurate numbers and names.

All future PMEA Events naturally will be subject to the current COVID rules at that time.

Don’t Forget

New PMEA windscreen banners have been procured, these are available for $25 each, please log-in to the Members section of the website, and go to Club Shop where you will find a picture and instructions on how to order. Should you have any difficulties, please contact me directly.

The Michael Andrews Memorial Trophy has concluded for another year. Points are recorded for attendance at every General Meeting and all Events. Now in its 3rd year, again the points were very close right to the very end and I am pleased to announce that we have a clear winner!

I will be presenting the MAT Trophy to the winner at an upcoming General Meeting, after the AGM, with a new date to be announced. Please do coming along to this meeting when PMEA present this and our other club awards  for 2020/2021 and congratulate the winners

Keep those wheels turning

David Cawthorn
